The Science Behind
CERA System

These short videos explain the core science behind CeraThrive - from how infrared light powers your cells, to
why the gut and brain are inseparable, and how modern light environments impact human biology.

Why modern life deprives us of infrared light — and what that means for energy, focus, and resilience.

How Infrared Light Works in the Body

Red and NIR (near-infrared) light are specific wavelengths that can penetrate biological tissue and interact directly with the body’s cells. When absorbed, this light supports key physiological processes, including cellular energy availability, circulation, inflammatory balance, and communication between cells, helping the body function more efficiently as an interconnected system.

Increased ATP (cellular energy)

The CERA System supports energy release at the cellular level (ATP), helping systems involved in mood, digestion, and mental focus operate more efficiently. [1]

icon

Improved blood flow and oxygen delivery

Red and NIR light can penetrate deep into tissues, supporting circulation so oxygen and nutrients are delivered more effectively through the body. [2]

Support for natural inflammatory balance

The CERA System helps calm inflammatory signals, supporting gut barrier integrity and a balanced environment for beneficial bacteria. [3]

Enhanced cellular signaling

Photobiomodulation supports clear, steady communication between cells, maintaining healthy signalling across the gut-brain axis. [4]

Improved mitochondrial function

Red and NIR light is absorbed by light-sensitive protein in the mitochondria - particularly cytochrome c oxidase. This helps cells produce and use energy more efficiently to meet the demands of digestion, cognition, and recovery. [5]

The Science Behind Targeting the Brain via the Gut

The gut and brain function as an interconnected system, communicating through neural, immune, and metabolic pathways, most notably via the vagus nerve. This nerve helps regulate digestion, mood, and recovery from stress by maintaining the body’s parasympathetic “rest and digest” response.

Signals from the gut influence mood, cognition, and stress levels, while stress signals from the brain directly affect digestion and gut function. When this system is disrupted by chronic stress, inflammation, or reduced cellular energy, it can contribute to symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, digestive discomfort, and emotional imbalance. Many seemingly unrelated conditions share this common feature: a dysregulated gut–brain axis.

Why Red and NIR Light

The CERA System combines red and NIR wavelengths to address both surface-level and deeper biological targets. Multi-target light therapy approach:

  • Deep tissue penetration
  • Blood irradiation
  • Mitochondrial energy production
  • Neural network modulation

This combination reflects how the human body evolved under natural sunlight — not isolated wavelengths.
